Which junior tennis program is right for my child?

Our junior tennis programs are organized by ball color, which helps match court size, equipment, and instruction to a child’s stage of development.

  • Red Ball is typically for younger players and focuses on movement, coordination, and basic stroke development.

  • Orange Ball builds on those fundamentals with longer rallies and more structured play.

  • Green Dot introduces full-court concepts and prepares players for standard tennis.

  • Yellow Ball is designed for middle and high school players working on match play, strategy, and competition.

Age helps guide where a child might start, but skill, confidence, and coordination ultimately determine placement.

The best way to find the right fit is to call us and bring your child in for a drop-in class. One of our expert coaches will evaluate your child on court and help determine the program and schedule that make the most sense.

If you’d like a tour of the facility or have any questions, please reach out!

What does a typical junior tennis lesson schedule look like?

Red Ball classes are 45 minutes, while all other junior group classes are 1 hour in length.

How often a player attends depends on their goals. Most players choose to come 1 to 3 times per week, based on interest, availability, and desired progress.

Pricing varies by program. For current rates, please refer to the Junior Tennis Programs page.

We also offer private and semi-private lessons for players of all ages and levels. If you’d like help deciding what option is best, please reach out to our team and we’ll be happy to assist.

How long is a junior tennis season, and how am I billed?

Group class payments are processed at the beginning of each month.

Registration is done by season. If you join partway through a season, billing will begin from your start date and continue through the end of that season.

Our seasons run as follows:

  • Spring: March, April, May

  • Summer: June, July, August

  • Fall: September, October, November

  • Winter: December, January, February

At the end of each season, players are automatically enrolled for the next season to hold their spot. If you don’t plan to continue, just send us an email and we’ll take care of it.

How do you know when a child is ready to move up?

We look at a few key areas as players develop, including rally consistency, serving, footwork, and understanding of the game.

As your child grows more comfortable on court, you may start to notice longer rallies, better movement, more accurate serves, and stronger focus during play.

Every child develops at their own pace. Sometimes progress is steady and gradual, and other times it comes in noticeable jumps. Moving up a level is guided by confidence and readiness, and not just time spent in a program.

Our coaches observe players throughout the season and review progress toward the end of each season to help guide next steps. When a child is ready for a new challenge, we’ll always communicate and support that transition.

If you ever have questions about your child’s progress, you’re welcome to schedule time with one of our coaches. We’re happy to connect based on availability.

How much tennis and conditioning should my child be doing each week?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. The right amount depends on your child’s age, goals, readiness, and overall schedule.

As a general guideline, younger players benefit from a balance of short tennis sessions and other physical activities, while older players gradually spend more time on court as their interest and commitment grow. Time each week can include a mix of:

  • Tennis classes and lessons

  • Conditioning or movement-based training

  • Other sports or activities

  • Free play, like hitting with family or friends

Progress tends to work best when tennis is part of a well-rounded routine, rather than the only activity. As players mature, time and focus can naturally increase based on comfort, consistency, and goals.

We don’t focus on hitting exact hourly targets. Instead, we look at readiness, enjoyment, and simple performance benchmarks to guide development in a healthy, sustainable way.

If it helps, our coaches are always happy to walk through a goal-setting conversation and help map out what makes sense for your child right now — and how that might evolve over time.

What is proper parent court etiquette?

We truly value the role parents play in supporting their child’s tennis journey.

During lessons, we ask that parents allow coaches the space to coach. If you’d like to reinforce what your child is learning, the best time to do so is after the lesson, by checking in with the coach and taking a few simple pointers home.

Coaching from the sidelines, even with the best intentions, can be distracting for players and coaches. We encourage parents to relax in the lobby, enjoy watching the session, and let our coaches focus on guiding the group.

Tennis is learned through doing. Mistakes are a natural and important part of the process, and giving players the freedom to try, miss, and adjust helps build confidence and independence on court.

Thank you for trusting our coaching team and for helping create a positive, supportive environment for everyone.

How can parents best support their child in tennis?

Parents play a big role in helping kids have a positive experience with tennis.

Simple things matter most — arriving on time, making sure kids are fueled and hydrated, and helping them come ready to listen and participate. These routines help players feel settled and prepared when they step on court.

Equally important is creating a supportive, encouraging environment. Tennis is a game where learning happens over time, often through mistakes and small adjustments. Patience and positivity go a long way.

By supporting the process and letting kids take ownership of their experience, parents help build confidence, independence, and a lasting enjoyment of the game.
